We have repainted it using color codes from Northern Pacific and
have kept all original boards and window bars with few
replacements. It has two solid wooden beams supporting the full
length of the car. These beams were changed to iron on all cars in
1909.
There is a similar 1887 car in the Duluth,
Minnesota museum but it is a rotary plow. It has the same wood and
parts.
This is a very unusual boxcar. There is no
legible identification number but is similar to wood and forged
parts as the 1887 Northern Pacific Railroad snow plow at the
Northern Pacific museum in Duluth, Minnesota. The curator of the
Northern Pacific museum has thoughts on what this boxcar may have
been used for.
Built around the turn of the century as a mail
car or camp car. It has bars on windows for railroad security.
There is no rot in any of the wood. The bottom of the boxcar
is supported by 2 full length creosol wooden beams. The 41
foot length is shorter then usual for these types of boxcars.
$35,000 must sell.
